I went to Puerto PenascoMexico<\/a> (Rocky Point) for the first time in 20 years. The last time I visited I was just out of high school and drove down with some friends for Spring Break. This town has changed a whole lot. And not for the worse but for the better. All along Sandy Beach are beautiful high rise condos and beach front homes. I stayed in the newest building called Sonoran Sky<\/a> and\u00a0it was beautiful.\u00a0The lobby of the Sky is gorgeous with tile flooring and\u00a0large glass windows that look out to the ocean. They also have a gym that faces the pool area\u00a0and the beach. I drove down in my own car and purchased Mexican Auto Insurance<\/a>which was relatively cheap, only $45 for three nights. The parking lot at the Sonoran Sky is totally secure and I wasn’t\u00a0worried in the least\u00a0about leaving my car parked\u00a0out there.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I ended up renting a\u00a01 bedroom condo on the 5th floorof the Sky<\/a>. It was a beautiful condo with travertine tile flooring,\u00a0the kitchen\u00a0has\u00a0full size stainless steel appliances, solid granite counters and a breakfast bar. The best part of the condo was\u00a0the huge glass sliding door that leads out to the furnished balcony\u00a0which allowed for\u00a0awesome views of the sandy beach and the ocean. All of the Sonoran Sky condos from the 1st floor all the way up to the 15th floor Penthouse suites offer\u00a0ocean front views.\u00a0 I took this picture showing two of the resort pools from my balcony.<\/div>\n

All in all, the two days went by way to fast. I was really\u00a0starting to relax and get into the swing of things too. I think next time I go\u00a0to Rocky Point\u00a0I’ll definitely want to stay\u00a0one\u00a0full week.\u00a0Getting to Puerto Penasco from Phoenix is so easy too. It’s less then 3 hours to the border and once you cross it’s just 60\u00a0more miles to the beach, fun times and\u00a0relaxation. \u00a0I also wanted to\u00a0say that at no time did I ever feel like I was in danger. There were always cars in front of me and behind me with Arizona plates, other\u00a0tourist all going to the same place I was.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This is a great place to head after staying at one of our Vacation Rentals in Phoenix AZ. I have some recommendations for places to eat if you go. The first day I went to Pollo Lucas, they are in a thatched roof building called a palapa, located on the main Hwy into town just north of Calle 13. At Pollo Lucas they cook whole charbroiled chickens and serve them with\u00a0homemade flour tortillas (made right there fresh) rice, beans and salsa. It was easily the best BBQ chicken I’ve ever had.<\/div>\n
My second recommendation is for Marys in the old port.\u00a0When I woke up Sunday morning it was cloudy with some intermittent rain showers and for me that means I’m in the mood for a good hearty soup. Marys hit the spot. I went in and ordered a piping hot bowl of 7 seas soup. It was full of fresh (just\u00a0off the boat) jumbo shrimp, red snapper, clams,\u00a0calamari and more and all of it was pulled right out of the Sea of Cortez.\u00a0Marys serves the soup\u00a0with piping hot corn tortillas on the side, along with some lemons and\u00a0chips with\u00a0salsa.<\/div>\n
