Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

Founded in 1952, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is dedicated to the bi-national Sonoran Desert region. The museum is quite different from traditional museums in that it is 85% an outdoors experience. The museum comprises 21 acres, 16 individual gardens, 1,200 native plant species, 56,000 individual plants and two miles of walking paths. There are 230 native mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects and birds in the animal collection at the museum. A multi-species hummingbird aviary is also onsite. A freshwater aquarium focused on the region’s rivers, native fish and conservation efforts. The museum is open daily to 5 PM, costs $20 for an adult and is located at 2021 N. Kinney Road.
